I have been a member of the association for over 20 years; first with IMBA as a mortgage agent under Romspen Investment Corporation and presently, as a Principal Broker with Royal Commercial Mortgage. Initially, I joined CMBA because I was intrigued by the many benefits the association promised its members. As a mortgage agent wanting to propel my career in the industry, I realized that it would only be beneficial to align myself with an organization geared towards providing mortgage professionals with the community network & educational resources needed to succeed. IMBA offered its members the opportunities to learn, grow and excel by actively offering educational courses, informative seminars and in-person training. Personally, all this provided by the association assisted me to become a more seasoned & knowledgeable agent which then allowed me to receive enough credits and experience to eventually become a Certified Professional Mortgage Broker as of May 31st, 2010.
As with most big corporations and regulated industries, there are Unions that represent their employees to ensure that employees know their rights’ are protected & voices are heard. The mortgage industry needs a union, in this case “CMBA.” They are a voice for mortgage professionals as CMBA liaisons between the governing bodies and mortgage professionals.
If I could put these into prospective; I would encourage mortgage professionals to be a member of the Association. The first and most important is, education, upgrading by gaining the knowledge to excel as a professional in the mortgage industry. Second is; Networking with other professionals to keep up-to-date with the constant changes that affect our industry and more informed to advise the clients we serve.
I would greatly encourage mortgage professionals to become a member of the Association because the main privileges are worth it. First and foremost, CMBA offers education and learning seminars, allowing professionals to gain the knowledge needed to excel in the mortgage industry; secondly, the ability to network with other professionals while keeping up-to-date with the constant changes that affects our industry and being more informed to advise the clients we serve.
